Venus' summer poetry workshop is a free, online mentorship commencing this summer of 2017. Through five weeks from July 3rd to August 7th, poets are paired with experienced and supportive program mentors willing to guide them through the many realms of poetry processes, including the explorations of editing, inspirational, form, and more. This mentorship program is a flexible and informal setting where groups of young poets bond and discover alongside each other, benefitting from the experience they gain through their mentors. Mentorship students will receive weekly instruction and assignments, grow from feedback, participate in readings, and discuss work alongside peers. Mentees and mentors work collaborate through five weeks, in small groups of 1-3 using email, Skype, Facebook, etc. for smooth communication.

The tasks of a mentee include:
  • reading assigned poetry pieces each week
  • completing a lesson-based assignment each week
  • avidly participating in weekly mentor lessons
  • peer-editing, dicussing, & connecting with fellow mentees
  • using mentor feedback to improve future assignments
  • putting dedication and a will to engage during the 5 weeks of the mentorship
  • putting together a final portfolio of the poetry written throughout the duration of the mentorship

Make sure to view our wonderful mentors below!

Ultimately, we look for motivated, determined, and supportive poets eager to grow, learn, and bond, while incorporating poetry into a part of their lives. The application for our 2017 summer poetry workshop is now open and will close on June 24th. Submissions are accepted on a rolling-basis. Make sure to apply before we reach our capped-amount of students, the faster the better.
We look forward to receiving your application!
